erected to the honor of JAMES PRINSEP by his fellow citizen

JP was a quite a guy it seems... had his fingers in many pies... coins, weights & measures, architecture, translations, civic amenities etc etc. for some reason he worked himself to death. goes to show that you can be too intelligent for your own good. Read more about his life here.

oh! cal-cutta!! I can just roam on the streets and not get bored of capturing moments... there is so much happening... feel really nostalgic... but in last few years have never been able to go to Cal with a free mind and a camera!! Love your photos though... :-)

you've missed his most important contribution...he's the chap to whom we owe ashoka..but for the labours of people like prinsep who were too intelligent for their own good, the wisdom of the buddha too may have been lost to us for ever, much like the achievements of the aztec or mayan civilizations

well, he could have done all that labour without killing himself... would have made more sense, no?
